Keeping office morale and energy levels high is important not only for productivity, but for creating a workplace that people actually enjoy being a part of.
Every single workplace has those moments where the energy levels suddenly disappear. Usually it happens somewhere between lunch and the final hour of the day, when everyone starts staring at spreadsheets like they’re written in ancient code.
Boosting office energy doesn’t require you to start cheerleading around it to make everybody happy, but you do need to start thinking about the small adjustments that you can make that will actually help.
Bring better snacks into the office.
Food has a magical ability to improve workplace moods. Employees who have easy access to snacks, drinks and coffee are often happier and more energised through the day. Many businesses now work with a vending company to provide convenient snack and beverage options at a smaller cost, and they can add that directly to the areas in the workplace. Having quick access to refreshments helps employees to recharge when they want to, without needing to leave the office entirely. There are very few things that unite co-workers faster than a stuck vending machine snack.
Make breaks a thing.
Brakes should be encouraged as many employees feel guilty taking them, especially during busy periods. However, regular short breaks actually improve focus on productivity. So if you want to encourage your team then make sure that they’re stepping away from their desk occasionally. That prevents mental fatigue and burnout. Even a quick walk outside or a coffee break can really help them feel more refreshed. A workplace culture that supports breaks often creates healthier and more sustainable productivity levels as well.
Improve physical workspace.
Go round your office and have a look at what the environment is like.Office environments have a big impact on energy levels. Dark lighting, uncomfortable seating, cluttered desks, and poor airflow make people feel tired surprisingly quickly. Simple improvements can really make a difference, so add some comfortable chairs, better lighting plants, and breakout areas to create a more positive atmosphere. Natural light is especially helpful for improving moods, too. Comfortable offices tend to feel more inviting, which naturally helps employees to be motivated.
Encourage positive communication.
Workplace energy is heavily influenced by communication and leadership style. Positive communication doesn’t mean pretending everything’s perfect, it just means creating an environment where people feel respected and happy. People will always work better when they feel valued rather than feel constantly stressed and recognising good work. Celebrating wins and encouraging teamwork build a more upbeat culture in the office.
Give everybody something to look forward to.
Routines sometimes make office life more repetitive, so introducing small and enjoyable moments throughout the month can help to boost morale and create a stronger team atmosphere. This could be casual Friday lunches, birthday celebrations, coffee mornings, friendly competitions or occasional team activities. These are the moments that don’t have to be expensive, but can really be different and happy for your team during the month.
