Issues on websites can go undetected for long periods of time. As business owners, we may not have any need to visit our website unless we suspect there is an issue, so it could be weeks, or even months until an issue with its usability is flagged up. Errors concerning search engine optimization, or SEO as it is more commonly known, can take even longer to be spotted because it can be months before the results of your hard work optimizing your website are picked up. It is only when you realize that you have not had the results that you expected that you know you have an issue – and then you have to start the whole process again.

As with most problems, the quicker something is picked up and dealt with, the better it is and the less damage it causes, so here, we look at some of the best ways of checking for issues on your site

Hire a pro to keep on top of your site.

If you do not have the time or human resources to manage your website, you should consider hiring a web design agency to do it on your behalf. They should be able to pick up any issues and deal with them as and when they crop up.

Check out reviews of your business.

You should be checking and responding appropriately to any reviews left on your website and social media by customers on a regular basis anyway, to help maintain and protect your business reputation. However, looking through reviews may flag up any issues that users are having with your website. People tend to be more vocal about problems than they are about anything else, so it is worth checking out.

Get your site tested.

This can be as simple or as in-depth as you want. You could ask a designated member of staff to check your website every day for any glaringly obvious errors, or you can pay for it be to tested thoroughly by an independent party. They will look at how easy it is to navigate, whether everything is working as it should and make sure that menu bars and navigation tools take you to the right place.

Check for broken links.

This is a task that is mind-numbingly dull, but essential, for both making your website easy for your customers to use and to maintain a good ranking on search engines. Once every month or so, use a broken link checker and remove or change any that are no longer working.. There are plenty of free ones available online (such as this one.)

If you follow these tips, your website will be user-friendly, making life a lot easier for both you and your customers.
