You know the saying, prevention is better than cure? It’s a popular saying for a reason because it’s true. Also, because it can save you a lot of money which is great for business, if you apply this concept of preventive maintenance to the running of your business then you’ll see that it’s not about fixing problems, but preventing those problems from ever happening in the first place.

For example, it is far better to invest your time and money in quality equipment rather than having to fix and replace all the time. You can do this in many ways, with a bit of careful planning and thinking ahead, and your wallet will thank you for it.

In the current climate, it’s important to be prepared for anything, so having your technology and equipment up to date is essential, having storefront security windows is essential and having plenty of stock is essential. In fact, there are many things you need to have to make sure you prevent problems from arising rather than fixing them later, and if this global pandemic has taught us anything, it’s to be prepared. So what else can you do to prepare and prevent in your business?

Go Green

This is a brilliant financial move and a way to prevent wasting energy. Try keeping equipment on a power strip and turning it off when not in use, replace your existing printer with one that prints on both sides of the paper to reduce paper waste and cost. It’s better to do this now for your business rather than down the line when you’re looking at ways to reduce costs.

Buy in Bulk

While it might seem a lot in the beginning, buying in bulk can save you a fortune in the long run and ultimately prevent you from running out. This could be buying cartridges for the printer or purchasing from bulk warehouses or online suppliers to save money, but either way, you will benefit from both the cost of the product cost and the shipping cost.

Know Your Customers

Finally, knowing your customers can help you prepare and prevent. If you know their behavior, if you know their preferences and get regular feedback from them, then you can stay ahead of the game rather than responding when there are problems. ]

For example, rather than wasting money on social media advertising, find out if your customers are even on social media. Plough your money into the platform they use rather than spreading it around just in case.

Treat Your Staff Well

While this goes without saying as you should always treat your staff well, it has never been so important due to the recent pandemic. It’s important to look after the mental and physical health of your staff and to make sure they know that you’re there for them.

Also, looking after your staff well, will, in the long run, save you money. By investing money and time into their training or paying them more to keep them, it will work out far cheaper than recruiting, replacing and retraining.
