No one said that getting into shape would be easy; they just said it would be worth it. Investing your time and effort — and often money — into getting into shape can pay huge dividends, especially as you get older. People who stay active as they age enjoy fewer illnesses, more energy, and find it easier to maintain a positive mindset.
But yes, the journey there isn’t always easy, especially if you’re starting as a beginner or near-beginner. Completing the journey isn’t about having motivation when you start; it’s about overcoming the hurdles that cause people to abandon the journey altogether.
With that in mind, we thought it’d be a good idea to put together some handy tips that will proactively prevent problems from arising and should greatly increase your chances of reaching your fitness goals.
Join the Nearest Gym
People tend to choose their gym based on amenities, but it’s much better to choose which gym you’ll sign up for based on its location. A gym might have world-class amenities, but if it’s far from your home, then it’s likely that you’ll go far fewer times than you would like — or need — to. The gym closest to your home might not be the best in your city by most standards, but since it offers the highest level of convenience, it is the best gym for you.
Post-Workout Care
The expression no pain, no gain is valid, but there’s an upper limit to how much pain one is willing to tolerate. If you’re continually returning home from the gym with sore, stiff muscles and joints, then it won’t be all that surprising if you’re not rushing back there anytime soon. You can prevent this issue by prioritizing post-workout care. Resting your body, taking CBD and THC relief for muscles and joints, and sleeping well will all give your body the care it needs to recover from the workout. Keep in mind that most workout-related pain goes away once the body is used to being put through its paces in the gym.
Understand What You’re Doing
If there’s one thing that prevents beginners from visiting the gym they’ve just signed up for, it’s a feeling that they don’t know what they’re doing. It can be intimidating to walk around a gym when you don’t know how to use the equipment correctly. It also doesn’t inspire confidence that your time spent in the gym will yield results.
The easiest, most effective way to prevent this issue is to book a session with a personal trainer. They’ll show you exactly how to use the equipment safely, as well as offer other useful tips that will help you on your fitness journey.
Build Consistency
It takes time to get used to going to the gym, and also to begin seeing results from your efforts. So our final tip is this: don’t give up too soon. The first couple of months can be challenging, but after that, it becomes much easier — and it’s at that point that you will begin to see/feel the effects.
