There’s an art to displaying products in a physical store. Where and how you display certain items can influence your customers’ purchase behaviors. Here are just a few different tips for enticingly displaying products around your store.
Use signage strategically
Signage can be a great way to draw attention to certain products. If you need to get rid of stock that is about to expire, consider offering discounts and advertising these with large signage. You can also use signage to draw attention to more profitable items.
Customise your racks
Racks can be an efficient way to display products. It’s possible to order a custom wire display rack to promote a certain brand or type of product. Such racks typically contain eye-catching graphics or logos. Use these racks to display popular items so that customers can easily find them in your store.
Light them up
You can strategically use lighting to illuminate certain products. Many clothes stores and jewelry stores will shine a spotlight on certain items to entice people into buying them. You can also shine accent lighting from behind or use ambient lighting to create an atmosphere.
Use mannequins and props
Mannequins are excellent for displaying clothing as they can provide a more accurate idea of what certain items look like when worn. You can also curate different outfits out of various different items to encourage customers to buy different clothing accessories together. Using mannequins and props it’s even possible to sell a lifestyle. For example, you could try to sell some camping gear by creating a family camping trip scene using mannequins sitting outside a tent posed with various camping equipment sold in your store.
Get the height right
Products at eye level will get the most attention as they are what customers will see first. A popular convenient store strategy involves placing profitable items at eye level and cheaper less profitable items at a lower level. Those on a tight budget will still go out of their way to look for these cheaper items, but those in a hurry may just choose the premium items at eye level.
Consider last minute checkout purchases
Another popular strategy involves placing impulse purchases near the checkout. This includes items like snacks, batteries or cheap toys that customers might decide to buy last minute while queuing. It’s a simple way to get customers to spend a little more than they might otherwise have spent.
Display demo/sample products
Giving customers the opportunity to interact with certain products could increase sales of these items. Consider taking certain gadgets or toys out of the packaging so that customers can pick them up and try them out.
You can similarly allow customers to try out perfumes to get an idea of how they smell. With foods and drinks, you can meanwhile give away free samples to tempt customers into buying them. You could give away these samples at the counter or you could set up a separate station where an employee hands them out.
